Macquarie’s Information Technology Group (ITG) is responsible for the management of Macquarie’s global technology infrastructure, the support and development of existing business systems, and the delivery and deployment of new systems, technologies and services. Each of Macquarie’s business Groups have a dedicated IT team partnering with them to understand the Group’s specific technology needs and to provide innovative and effective IT solutions.

The Manila Resource Centre (MRC) based in Makati City, Metro Manila forms part of ITG’s strategic goal to offer first class IT support and development to the Macquarie group of businesses and since it’s inception in October 2007, the MRC has played a key role in the provision of ITG services to end users within the organization.

Database Administrator (ITS Manila)

The Infrastructure Technology Services (ITS) division is seeking to recruit an experienced database administrator to join a dynamic team which installs, maintains and administers mission-critical, leading-edge Sybase databases for the Macquarie Group of companies.

In this role you will be responsible for the ongoing service and support of the global database environment along with potential for involvement in key deployment projects related to the platform.

Responsibilities:

•    Providing first-class database support and administration;
•    Working quickly and effectively to resolve or escalate production Sybase issues at the first sign of detection using agreed monitoring and resolution processes;
•    Execution of change requests;
•    Administering database access and maintaining database security;
•    ‘Gate-keeping’ of new databases destined for the production environment;
•    Fine-tuning and optimizing poorly performing databases and the related infrastructure;
•    Ensuring synchronization between production replica databases;
•    Running or re-running of failed regular jobs and killing failed tasks;
•    Implementation of regular monthly patches;
•    Providing backup/back-fill support to business aligned teams where required.

The following characteristics are considered essential:

•    University degree in computer science or engineering, or equivalent;
•    Able to work co-operatively with global technology teams;
•    An ability to undertake shifted work patterns to cover a 24×7 environment;
•    A quick-thinking problem solver, able to assimilate data rapidly in order to present solutions to day-to-day incidents;
•    Be a strong, dynamic character, capable dealing effectively with colleagues and business users working in a constantly evolving environment across multiple time-zones and cultures;
•    Be able to remain calm under pressure and when faced with adversity or urgent issues;
•    Customer-focused with a “service first” mentality and best-in-class communication skills;
•    Be able to view currently processes and procedures as opportunities for enhancement, tuning and improvement.

Minimum required experience:

•    Minimum of 2 years continuous, recent experience administering Sybase databases or at least 5 years in MS-SQL;
•    Currently operating in a similar role within a banking or financial institution;
•    Troubleshooting and resolution of production problems and issues within database environments;
•    Change Management processes.

Experience in the following areas would be considered very advantageous:

•    Remedy trouble-ticketing system
•    Solaris and Windows operating systems
•    MS-SQL
•    Veritas Clustering and replication products
•    Legato Networker backup solution
•    EMC Storage systems
•    ITIL practices
•    Scripting, in P erl and Shell
•    Sybase replication server
•    Sybase ASIQ
