Oracle Infrastructure Specialist - Engineering Services – Manila
The Information Technology Group (ITG) is responsible for:
- managing technology infrastructure
- supporting, maintaining and enhancing existing business systems
- delivering and deploying new systems, technologies and services
Technology plays a critical role within ITG provides each business unit with a dedicated account team that works closely with that business to understand its particular technology needs.
The Manila Resource Centre (MRC) based in Makati City, Metro Manila forms part of ITG’s strategic goal to offer first class IT support and development to the group of businesses and since it’s inception in October 2007, the MRC has played a key role in the provision of ITG services to end users within the organization.
We are looking for an experienced Oracle Infrastructure Specialist to design, develop and manage the central Oracle Infrastructure across ITG in conjunction with the Sydney team. The skill set should be predominately Oracle focused, but with additional DBMS experience of Sybase and MSSQL if possible. The role will be closely aligned to business groups’ activities and projects.
The main responsibilities of this role are as follows:
- development of management, deployment, monitoring and backup technologies
- consultancy to business areas, with respect to solutions architecture & in depth problem/systems analysis
- ensuring optimum performance and availability of Database systems
- controlling Security and access to Database systems
- ongoing upgrade and maintenance of database versioning
- development and design consulting to ITG Account Team and business users
- operating within Service Support and Service Delivery framework for DBA team (i.e. ITIL procedures for Change Control)
You must have considerable database administration experience and be comfortable working on your own initiative in a rapidly changing environment. You must be able to perform under time pressure, and be prepared to work flexible hours. You will be qualified to degree level with experience working in a large scale enterprise or a smaller team supporting high value applications.
The following characteristics would be considered essential:

- the ability to troubleshoot and rapidly resolve production DBMS issues
- the ability to liaise with business groups and vendors about products, services and to summarize options based on benefits vs. risk vs. cost
- the ability to offer consultancy to other teams within the region on DB based requirements
- customer-focused and having excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate with technical and non-technical stake-holders
- innovative approach to development and problem resolution
- strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage a full workload and prioritize effectively
- focus on standardization, automation and optimization of process
- strong attention to detail
- the ability to undertake shifted work patterns to cover a 24×7 environment
Required technical Skills:
- Minimum 5 yrs. DBA experience
- 10 yrs. plus IT experience (not all as a DBA)
- Oracle Certified Professional (at least 9 and 10)
- Oracle 9i, 10g
- Oracle application server or other unix based web server
- Programming exp. (application programming in any language, preferably C)
- Shell scripting (korn, p erl, bash)
- Windows scripting
- SQL server 2005/8
- Unix and windows o/s concepts
- Database architecture design and consulting
- Strong testing methodologies
- Production support (at least 2 yrs.)
Knowledge in the additional following areas is desirable:
- Sybase ASIQ
- Veritas Clustering products
- Windows Reporting and Analysis Services
- IIS and web related products
- Solaris Operating Systems
- EMC SAN environments
- ITIL fundamentals
- Oracle 8i
- Oracle 11g
- Oracle Financials
